At just 5 years of age this Beechworth Shiraz was showing no signs of age, a deep dark ruby with a good clarity.
On first whiff exhibited a lovely strawberry and vanilla cream sweetness amongst a chorous of dark fruits.
On the palate this was very tight and acid dominant with cherries and blackcurrant very forward, drowning out the faint hint of spice at this young age.
Solid age potential in this wine as it matures over the next 10 years to reveal more secondary characters behind the very forward acid and fuit currently dominant. Will last easily another 15 years but peaking at 10 likely. Will revisit this in 5 years for an update of the same vintage (please remind me in 2020!).
