One of the Hunter Valleys classics, this Shiraz was a deep, dark maroon with its 14 years giving a visible terracotta tint and quite a bit of sediment (bring a filter!).
On the nose this was reasonably light, showing its age with cherry and some darker berries along with leather and a light barnyard character. On the palate this wine was balanced and showed maturity, with the years having shedding some of its boldness culminating in a lovely roundedness, with most guessing reasonably close to its vintage.
Drinking very well at its current vintage, but will last a good 5+ yet, this this particular bottle (under cork) would not benefit greatly from those additional years rest, at risk of it losing too much fruit. Drink by 2020.
